The health of your dog is decisively influenced by an appropriate diet. However, there are a few things to consider in daily feeding. We'll show you tips on how to properly feed your dog.

HOW MUCH FOOD DOES MY DOG NEED?

The energy requirement of a dog depends, among other things, on age, size, posture (indoors / outdoors) and level of activity. An agile dog has a higher energy requirement than a calmer dog. To determine the correct amount of food, it is best to refer to the respective feeding recommendation on the dog food packaging. The feeding recommendation, however, only represents an average value. Each dog must be assessed individually with regard to its living conditions.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU FEED DOGS?

Everyone has certainly already experienced in themselves how one feels after a particularly opulent meal - namely full and sluggish. Dogs are no different, which is why feeding them once a day is not recommended. It is better to feed two or three meals throughout the day. In this way, the food supplied can be digested in the best possible way.

In large dogs, if the food rations are too large, there is a risk of stomach torsion. After feeding, the dog should rest for one to two hours.

WHEN SHOULD IT BE FED?

Some dogs are quite relaxed about feeding times. Accordingly, you can proceed a little more generously here and the food does not have to be in the bowl to the minute. But there are also dogs that can't wait to be fed. One reason for this can be irregular feeding times. It can therefore be useful for impatient dogs to feed them, for example, always at the same time in the early morning and late afternoon. So the dog can adjust to these times. You should disturb your dog as little as possible when eating. Several dogs should be fed at different feeding places.

GETTING USED TO NEW FOOD

Some diseases require a switch to a special diet. It is best for the dog to get used to a new food as carefully and gently as possible: A small part of the new food is mixed well with the previous one. The proportion is gradually increased until finally there is only the new food in the bowl.

MY DOG IS ALWAYS HUNGRY. AM I FEEDING TOO LITTLE?

Excessive cravings can be caused by mistakes in feeding, such as poorly digestible food. The dog then tries to compensate for the deficiencies in the ration by increasing food consumption. High-quality dog food is balanced and contains easily digestible raw materials, so that sufficient supply for the dog is ensured. That being said, there are illnesses that can lead to food cravings. For example, diseases of the pancreas can prevent the food from being sufficiently broken down and digested. If feeding a high-quality complete food does not bring any improvement, you should see your dog at the vet.

DANGERS OF FRESH MEAT FEEDING (BARfS)

Feeding raw animal materials poses health risks for dogs and humans. In 2018, Dutch researchers carried out a study on frozen barf products, which led to terrifying results: In 40 percent of the samples, E. coli bacteria were detected that had exceeded the permitted limit for food. A special variant of E. coli bacteria was even detected in 23 percent of the products, which can lead to severe food poisoning in humans. Freezing makes the pathogens inactive, but anyone who buys raw meat from the butcher and feeds it to the dog should be aware of this danger. A transmission can take place, among other things, during processing, when cleaning the food bowl or when there is intensive contact with the dog, e.g. by licking. Small children in particular are very inexperienced and at risk here. But older or sick people also have an increased risk of infection due to a weaker immune system.

In addition, a multitude of mistakes can be made when barking, which can lead to deficiency symptoms and / or an oversupply of nutrients in the dog. It is safer to use a high-quality complete food for dogs.

CAN I FEED LEFTOVERS FROM THE LUNCH MENU?

Rather not. Human food is mostly unsuitable for dogs because it is too salty, too spicy and too unbalanced. For optimal nutrition for dogs, high-quality complete food from our product range is available, which contains all essential nutrients in a balanced composition and provides the dog with optimal care.
